Average Daily Units After Promotion

We helped a consumer electronics brand scale a niche Zigbee product on Amazon. Outside promotional periods, sales were limited, and most traffic and orders came from branded and Zigbee-related searches. The brand needed to reach beyond its core ecosystem audience without turning the campaign into a one-off discount spike.

Oceanwing treated the promotion as a full growth cycle. The strategy used a controlled discount to accelerate conversion, uncovered demand beyond branded and Zigbee-specific searches, and continued investing in search terms that proved effective during the event. This connected short-term order volume to longer-term organic visibility.

The Challenge

Discounting alone would not solve the underlying growth challenge. The promotion needed to improve conversion, broaden discovery, and create momentum that would continue after the event. Three constraints added pressure:
  • Low Baseline Demand and a High Trial Barrier: Outside promotional periods, sales and conversion remained limited, indicating that shoppers needed a stronger reason to make a first purchase.
  • Dependence on Core Ecosystem Demand: Branded and Zigbee-related searches generated most traffic and orders, leaving broader functional and use-case demand underdeveloped.
  • Limited Post-Event Sustainability: A temporary increase in orders would not create lasting value unless the event also strengthened organic rankings and the post-promotion sales baseline.

Strategic Approach

Oceanwing developed a three-part promotion-led strategy to improve conversion during the event, uncover demand beyond established search behavior, and preserve the momentum generated by the promotion.

  • Promotion-Led Conversion Acceleration: Implemented a controlled discount of 10%–15% and strengthened high-intent traffic coverage to lower the first-purchase barrier, improve conversion, and accelerate order accumulation.
  • Traffic Diversification Beyond the Core Audience: Protected branded and Zigbee-related coverage while expanding into non-branded, non-Zigbee functional and use-case keywords. Sponsored Brands placements, Brand Store content, and scenario-led creative helped new shoppers understand the product and convert.
  • Post-Promotion Organic Reinforcement: Retained high-converting search terms identified during the event, maintained core keyword coverage, and used the increase in order volume to strengthen organic rankings and sustain sales after the discount ended.

Results

  • Generated 902.8% unit sales growth during the promotion compared with the non-promotional baseline.
  • Improved conversion rate by 11.48 percentage points, increasing CVR from 10.63% to 22.11%.
  • Improved TACOS from approximately 8.5% to 7.0% during the promotion, as total sales grew faster than advertising spend.
  • Doubled the share of ad orders generated by non-branded and non-Zigbee search terms from approximately 10% to approximately 20%.
  • Increased average daily unit sales by 280% in the 14 days after the promotion, from 15.08 to 57.43 units, compared with the 14 days before the event. Most core keywords reached the #1 organic position, while the subcategory rank in a key marketplace improved from approximately #20 to #10.

Key Insights

  • Controlled promotions unlock demand more effectively when they are paired with high-intent traffic coverage rather than treated as a standalone tactic.
  • A promotional window can also serve as a demand-discovery engine, revealing which non-branded functional and use-case searches are most likely to convert.
  • Retaining high-converting search terms after an event helps convert temporary order volume into stronger organic rankings and post-promotion sales.
  • The strongest promotion plans connect conversion, audience expansion, and organic reinforcement as one continuous growth cycle.
